Le Baby – user guide
💁♂️ The basics
The baby journal is composed of entries stacked on top of each others, the top most one being the most recent.
Add entries by taping the add button (+), and select the desired activity (view the screen capture).
Edit entries by tapping them, in the journal.
Edit entries’ time by tapping on the entry, and tapping the time at the bottom of the screen. A time strip will appear: slide it left or right to adjust (view the screen capture).
Delete an entry by swiping it to the left (view the screen capture).
Access settings for the journal and the app by tapping the name or picture of the baby (view the screen capture).
⚡️ The actions area
The baby’s name or picture leads to the settings screen.
When the app has multiple journals, the other names can be found left or right of the current one.
If the breastfeeding setting is on, quick action buttons for both breasts can be tapped to launch the breastfeeding timer.
When the breastfeeding setting is off, quick actions are used to add new bottle or sleep entries.
The add button (+) gives access to all entry types available. This list is also available by pulling the journal down.
🤱⏱ Breastfeeding timer
Use it to record feed duration while you nurse. The breastfeeding option must be enabled from the settings screen for the timer to be displayed in the actions area.
Start the timer by tapping the chosen breast.
Pause by tapping the center button. Resume by tapping it again.
Switch breast at any time by tapping the other breast’s button. The timer keeps the time for each breast.
It’s possible to add other entries while the breastfeeding timer is running.
The timer will still be running if you quit the app. It also survives when the phone’s battery dies and restarts.
🤱 Breastfeeding entry
Use it to add a nursing entry after it occurred, or to edit a recorded one.
The cursors set the duration of the nursing session for each breast. Left cursor for the left breast, right cursor for the right breast.
The darker color is used to highlight which breast nursed last in the nursing session. You can set a breast as “last one in the session” by tapping on its duration.
🍼 Bottle entry
Adjust quantity by sliding the level up or down.
Adjust by smaller values by tapping once above or below the cursor button.
You can select formula or breast milk using the switch on the right. The value for a new entry defaults to the last entry’s value.

💤⏱ Sleep timer
To start recording a sleep, adjust the time the baby fell asleep at, and tap the ✔️ button.
To stop recording, tap the moon in the actions area to access the sleep entry screen, and tap STOP. This selects the awaken time, which you can adjust. Tap the ✔️ button to save the entry.

✏️ Notes entry
Not much to tell here, it’s pretty straightforward. The difficult thing will be to find the right words.
Some emoji shortcuts are available for the notes you might have to save regularly such as the vitamin drop 💧 or a medical treatment 💊.
📊 Graphs
Access graphs by tapping the bar chart icon that appears on the bottom right when you start scrolling the journal.
They provide a view on the evolution of weight, height, head circumference, breastfeeding time, bottle volume, diapers, and sleep time.
The routine graph (“24h” icon) shows at which moment of the day records for available entry types were made, day after day. Tap entry types to display / hide.
The weekly view of the routine graph is a summary of what was recorded for any given week. For each hour of the day, it indicates the frequency of a record type during the week. It’s useful for observing trends over multiple months in the width of a smartphone screen.
It’s possible to export each graph as an image using the button in the middle bottom of the screen.
🎛 Baby journal settings
You can access this screen by tapping the baby’s name or picture. This is where you can:
Edit the name of the baby. Tap on it to pop the keyboard up.
Add a picture of the baby.
Tell if the baby is breastfed. This will show the breastfeeding timer in the actions area.
Choose a color theme for the baby’s journal.
Share the journal with other participants (more on this topic below).
Export the baby’s journal. It will present you a table with all entries. Tap the share icon to save the .csv file where you want to. The Files app is a good place.
Delete the baby’s journal. This is permanent, and we encourage you to export it before doing so.
Add another journal. You’ll be able to switch from one to the other in the actions area.
⚙️ App settings
Just below the journal settings are the app preferences. You can:
Activate the Night Mode. When your device senses a low light environment, the app will automatically switch to a very dark color theme. It minimises the amount of light emitted by the screen, making it less likely to disturb a sleeping partner, or a feeding baby. This works in complement of the iOS Dark Mode (more details in our blog post).

⭐️ Hidden helpers
These little details make the difference when using an app multiple times a day, weeks in a row.
It’s possible to add or edit entries while a timer is running.
Timers keep running if you exit or quit the app. Even if you need to restart your device.
The list of entry types can be opened by pulling the journal down.
A local backup is made on the device in the Files app. It’s regularly updated to prevent loss of data if anything goes wrong in the app. Better safe than sorry.
